Acting early saves money because termites work out of sight, and by the time damage is visible the repair bill has usually grown. In the Blue Mountains, termites are the pest that costs homeowners the most, so a free termite inspection at the first sign of trouble is a sensible first step.
Signs worth checking for
These are the most common signs we are asked about:
- Mud tubes on walls, piers or foundations
- Hollow-sounding timber when you tap skirting boards, door frames or window sills
- Winged alates (flying termites) gathering near windows and light sources
Telling flying termites from flying ants
Termites are often mistaken for ants. The easiest check is the wings: a termite’s front and hind wings are the same length, while an ant’s front wings are noticeably longer than its hind pair. If you are unsure, photograph what you find and show our licensed technicians.
Why delay costs more
Termites can damage foundations, timber framing, insulation and even pool liners, often for months before anyone notices. Most home insurance policies do not cover structural termite damage, so the repair cost can fall on you. Catching activity early with a pest control termite inspection keeps a small problem from becoming an expensive one.
